Museum of the Hôtel-Dieu
In the heart of the historic centre of Mantes-la-Jolie, a stone's throw from the medieval Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame, the Hôtel-Dieu Museum bears witness to the city's rich history. Renovation work undertaken between 2017 and 2020 has enabled the museum to rethink the presentation of its collections and to restore the façade to its former glory.
The Hôtel-Dieu Museum holds the largest collection dedicated to the artist Maximilien Luce in France. This collection is now on permanent display on the first floor of the museum, in a tour dedicated to the discovery of his life and work. This post-impressionist painter (1858-1941) settled in the region, in Rolleboise, in 1917. He particularly illustrated the themes of the landscape in the Seine valley, the activities on and along the river, the industrial boom and the working conditions of the time.
